New clothes, Neechan on vacation…of course we had to go on a photo shoot! Neechan’s Aunt and Uncle went home for a vacation in Manila and yay, she brought us lots of clothes! That’s why we begged Kao-neechan to take us along when she visited them so we could shoot in her cousin’s rock garden. Nice place, yes? Only it was too windy!

Neechan took too much time fixing her stuff, so here we were, staring at her. Hopefully, all four of us waiting expectantly would make her move faster—unfortunately, it didn’t.

The rocky area behind me is actually a fish pond. Because of the scare about disease carrying mosquitoes however, they opted to keep it dry. Which is a pity because Kao-neechan told me it used to have cute Koi swimming around. But I guess it’s all right. Safety should come first.

It was Sachi-chan’s first visit at Verdana so she had a lot of fun poking around and exploring. And I had no idea that Coffee Shop Midori works at, Barbie’s, was such a big chain! Sachiko even got a cute novelty top with the Barbie’s Coffee brand on it!

Sachiko and I! I’m so happy we’re together again after spending our Senior High School years apart.

Don’t you think I have the coolest big brother in the world? It’s no wonder girls left and right have crushes on him. And don’t tell her but I have a very strong suspicion a certain someone who—uhm—is really close to me has a major crush on him too, heeheehee.

This is Junpei-kun.

Jun-kun was offering to take Kao-neechan’s picture too, but she didn’t want to let go of Natsume (yes, Kao-neechan’s camera has a nickname *rolls eyes*), instead she said she’d take our picture instead.

Jun-kun and I.

Anyway, these are just a few of our photos. Kao-neechan took a couple more, they’re all in her Flickr account so do visit that as well. Of course Kao-neechan’s captions are boring, mine are better, don’t you think? She really should stick to taking photos instead of blogging.

Because I’m a nice person, I’m letting Kao-neechan use my blog for her tutorial thingie. She says people might find it helpful so I guess I really should let her. Whatever.

xxxoooxxx,
Aki

Unlike the Obitsu Normal Male swap, switching from Taeyang stock to Obitsu male is much much easier. Still, I know how it can be daunting to swap the first time so I figured I’d take photos and do a guide as I go along to make the process less scary.

Before you begin, remember to wash your hands and to keep a clean towel nearby. Clean hands = clean dollies.

First off, you’ll need a Slim Type Male Obitsu, the accompanying neck pegs, screwdrivers, and teflon tape or rubber bands. I usually keep scissors on hand because they save time when opening packages, cutting tape, and all sorts of things. Of course you need to have your original taeyang too. If you haven’t removed the stock wig off your taeyang, do so now. Couldn’t take photos of that because Junpei’s long been rewigged, but if you don’t know how, Poohki’s SB switch guide explains it clearly.

Okay. He’s been dewigged. The first thing you do is find a spot along the edges of his scalp plate where you can work your screwdriver in. Gently poke and pry until you hear a popping sound.

The popping sound means that the glued part has come apart and you can now pull the scalp off.

The taeyang head has 3 screws keeping the front and back plate together. Unscrew them, but make sure you keep them together in a safe place.

Remove the back plate. Now, you’re left with the face plate, the eye mech and the body.

Remove the body from what’s left of the head, then lay the head down on a safe, cushioned place. When laying my dolls face down, I place them on clean, soft cloth where there’s no chance that it’ll be scratched.

Now, take the body and unscrew the neck peg that’s attached to it.

Replace it with the largest neck peg.

Wrap the part of the neck that’s between the body and the neckpeg with lots of Teflon Tape or High Quality rubber bands. Recently, an issue has been brought up that low quality rubber bands can cause neck melt (and has happened to one of my own dolls), so I’m opting for Teflon tape simply because I don’t have access to high quality rubber bands.

Make sure you build up an adequate amount of tape, because it tends to flatten after insertion.

Try inserting the body into the neck hole. Twist it a bit to test for tightness. It should be tight enough to not wobble, yet still allow for turning the head left and right. If it’s not, add or lessen tape / rubber bands until you have a satisfactory fit.

Add the backplate. Before screwing it back on, hold the front and back parts tight then experiment moving the neck. If you’re still satisfied, screw the backplate on. If you’re not, adjust the tape / rubber bands. Make sure to screw the head on tightly—you don’t want a doll with a screw loose. ^_^;; (Although I seriously think no amount of tightening will ensure that for Junpei.)

Attach the scalp plate back on. There are may ways of sticking it back. You can use velcro, glue, or blutak. Whatever you do, don’t use superglue or any glue that can’t be undone. You never know when you’ll need to reopen their heads. Plus, a lot of owners have said that superglue eats through pullip plastic. O.o Personally, I use blutak / tack-it. The backside is that it stains but then, I don’t mind since it’ll stain a concealed place anyway.

Stick the scalp on, then slip his wig back into place. Slim Obitsu body swap success! Awful skintone match, neutral on a Sage but I’m not sure if I can blush the right skin tone on him. In the meantime, he’ll have to stay clothed.

You now have a lankier boy with more body motion. Congrats!

The first few steps might confuse you if you have a newer boy. I don’t know when they switched, but between Sage and Butler, the heads have been changed. From a 3-part head with three parts (front, back + scalp), we now have a 2-part head, that only comes with front and back plates. Not much diff obitsuing-wise. You just don’t have to pry the scalp off. (Suggestion, to avoid complaining dolls, ply them with tequila until they fall asleep! Seiji slept through the whole obitsu process!)

Lastly, slim obitsu bodies (not sure with normal male) have extendable legs. Simply detach the legs at their connection points then slip in the extenders. Instant longer legs!
